A Man in a Veil. 6-7
Story: 7
Acting: 8
Chemistry: 8
Comparable to: Can You Hear My Heart (kdrama) ; Good Doctor (kdrama)
Turn your brain off and go with the flow. This drama is highly highly overly dramatic, think telenova, makjang, soap opera. Nothing follows through really with the storyline, so many plot holes, and the characters are dumb down to village idiots, except one character who apparently can get away with murder….seriously. OverallI couldn’t stop watching the series, it’s addictive as heck especially if you’re into this type of drama. Warning though, it’s over 100 episodes long.

The Crossroads of Youth
It is important to recognize that "The Crossroads of Youth" and "Turning Point of the Youngsters" are two translations of the same Korean title, "청춘의 십자로." For clarity, this post will consistently refer to the film as "The Crossroads of Youth." Enjoy.
"The Crossroads of Youth" (청춘의 십자로; 靑春의 十字路) is a melodrama film from 1934, produced during the Japanese colonial era in Korea. Directed and written by Ahn Jong-hwa, the film features performances by Lee Won-yong, Shin Il-sun, Kim Yeon-sil, and Park Yeon. Notably, it predates Korea's first sound film, "The Story of Chunhyang," and is recognized as the sole surviving silent film from this period, classified as National Registered Cultural Property No. 488. The narrative follows the experiences of a protagonist who migrates from the countryside to the capital. Initially considered a lost film, its original version was rediscovered in 2007 and subsequently released in 2008, albeit with some unrestored segments.

Plot
The film opens with the sight of a train passing, setting the stage for Young-bok's journey. Having left his mother and younger sister, Young-ok, in their hometown, he arrives in Seoul to work as a porter at Gyeongseong Station. Previously, Young-bok spent seven years as a son-in-law at Bong-seon's household, but he relocated to the city after Bong-seon was taken by Ju Myeong-gu. In his new role, he encounters Young-hee, a gas station attendant who struggles to support her ailing father and younger sibling.
Tumblr media
In the meantime, Young-ok, having lost her mother, travels to Gyeongseong in search of her brother. Unable to locate him, she secures a position as a waitress at a café. During her employment, she meets Gae-cheol, a wealthy associate of Ju Myeong-gu, who exploits her vulnerability, leading to a traumatic encounter. Concurrently, Young-hee, who has also lost her job, becomes ensnared in Gae-cheol's predatory circle.
After fleeing her home, Young-hee confides in Young-bok about the harrowing events. Upon learning the truth, Young-bok confronts Gae-cheol at his residence, where he reunites with Young-ok. She recounts her ordeal, prompting Young-bok to seek vengeance against Gae-cheol. In a climactic confrontation, he and his fellow porters launch an attack on Gae-cheol and Ju Myeong-gu's gang. Ultimately, with the conflict resolved, Young-bok receives Young-ok's blessing and vows to start anew alongside Young-hee.
Production
"Crossroads of Youth" marked the inaugural production of Geumgang Cinema, a film production entity. Initially conceived as a sound film, the decision was made to transition to a silent format due to certain deficiencies identified in the original footage. Producer Park Chang-soo, who adopted the stage name Park Yeon for his role as Jang Gae-cheol, financed the project himself after experiencing setbacks in his acting career, including an unsuccessful audition for actor recruitment.
The filming took place across various locations in Gyeongseong. The narrative commences at Gyeongseong Station, where the character Yeongbok serves as a porter, while scenes featuring Yeonghee as a gas station employee were captured in the vicinity of Gyeongseong Station Square. Additionally, a pivotal fight sequence between the characters Banbu and Gookilgwan was filmed in one of Seoul's numerous restaurants.
Screening
"Crossroads of Youth" premiered at the Joseon Theatre on April 21, 1934. On September 26 of the same year, an incident occurred involving an actor from the film who was stabbed. Um Dong-ok (엄동옥; 嚴東鈺), a boxer and gangster known as Shinmajeok, confronted Lee Won-yong and Park Yeon after viewing the film. During this encounter, Um Dong-ok requested a drink, citing the movie's commercial success, and subsequently demanded payment for his suit. When Lee Won-yong refused to comply, Um Dong-ok attacked him with a dagger. The weapon penetrated Lee Won-yong's left abdomen, cutting through his suit jacket and pants, yet fortunately did not injure his flesh.
Excavation and Re-examination
Following the discovery of "Sweet Dream" in 1936, a private collector reached out to the Korean Film Archive, claiming possession of nine rolls of vintage film. The collector explained that his father had operated a cinema named Dansungsa until shortly after the Korean War began, and the films were preserved when the theater ceased operations during the conflict. Upon examination by the Korean Film Archive, it was confirmed that these rolls contained the original negative of "Crossroads of Youth," which premiered in 1934. Notably, the discovered material was a negative rather than a positive print, consisting of nitrate film, with eight rolls representing the main content and one roll dedicated to the ending credits. Regrettably, one of the eight main rolls exhibited a whitening effect, rendering it irreparable.
Tumblr media
The discovery of this film marked it as the oldest surviving Korean cinematic work, leading to occasional screenings organized by local authorities and film archives. Given its silent film status, many of these screenings featured a narrator to provide context and commentary. In 2007, the Korean Film Archive was approached by another private collector who provided nine nitrate negative rolls from the 1930s. Among these, one roll included the film's concluding titles, while another was too deteriorated to undergo restoration. The collector's father had retained these films from his time managing Dansungsa until the onset of the Korean War.
During the restoration efforts, the film research team initially identified the work as "Passion Flowing Through the Galaxy," directed by Ahn Jong-hwa. However, further investigation clarified that the film was indeed "Crossroads of Youth." This process underscores the challenges associated with preserving nitrate film, which is susceptible to oxidation and poses significant fire hazards, as evidenced by historical incidents even in well-organized archival environments like the United States. The fortunate survival of these films, despite their precarious conditions, is a remarkable achievement in film preservation.
Evaluation
In 1938, the Chosun Ilbo Film Festival recognized "Crossroads of Youth" as the sixth best entry in its list of the "Top 10 Silent Films."
Show
At the time of its debut, "Crossroads of Youth" achieved significant commercial success. Baek Ya-saeng, in his article "15 Years of Joseon Cinema" published in the Chosun Ilbo, remarked that "Mr. Ahn Jong-hwa produced ‘Crossroads of Youth,’ and the audience, eager for Joseon cinema, responded with applause reminiscent of raindrops at a festival." He further noted that during its screening in Daejeon on Chuseok in 1937, three years post-release, the venue was filled to capacity.
Tumblr media
Director Ahn Jong-hwa later reflected on the film's box office performance, attributing its success partly to the return of actors Lee Won-yong and Shin Il-sun to the screen after a lengthy absence, which provided the film with a competitive edge at the box office.
Impact and Value
“Crossroads of Youth” predates the first sound film, “Chunhyangjeon,” released in 1935, and stands as the sole silent film produced during the Japanese colonial era. Its historical significance is underscored by its designation as National Registered Cultural Property No. 488 in South Korea, reflecting its cultural and artistic value.
Film historian Kim Jong-won highlights several aspects of “Crossroads of Youth” that contribute to its importance in Korean cinema. It provides insight into the state of filmmaking at the conclusion of the silent film era under Japanese rule, showcases the talents of early silent film actors like Shin Il-sun, Lee Won-yong, and Kim Yeon-sil, and offers a glimpse into the early works of Ahn Jong-hwa, whose contributions remain largely unexamined due to the loss of his films. Notably, the film's discovery occurred within South Korea, further enhancing its cultural relevance.

Anseong Art Hall to hold performance of historical drama 'Crossroads of Youth'
Anseong Art Hall in Anseong City set to showcase the historical drama 'Crossroads of Youth' at 7:30 PM on July 28, 2021, in the Small Theatre. This event was part of the hall's programming for Culture Day in July and represents a reinterpretation of the 1934 Korean silent film 'Crossroads of Youth' by Jong-hwa Ahn, presented in a new format known as bensa drama. The performance aimed to evoke the atmosphere of the Gyeongseong theatre district during the 1930s, as articulated through the bensa's dialogue in the original film.

Anseong Art Hall in Anseong City will present the historical drama 'Crossroads of Youth' at 7:30 PM on the 28th as part of the July Culture Day planned performance at the Anseong Art Hall Small Theater. (Photo = Anseong City).
The significance of 'Crossroads of Youth' lies not only in its status as a landmark Korean film but also in its aesthetic and historical value. The film has garnered acclaim for its visual artistry and has been featured in prestigious film festivals, including the Seoul Chungmuro International Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival in 2008, as well as international events such as the 47th New York Film Festival in 2009 and the Guanajuato International Film Festival in 2011. These accolades have played a crucial role in promoting the global recognition of Korean cinema and its performances.
This production is under the direction of Kim Tae-yong, known for his work on "The Birth of a Family" and "Manchu." Jo Hee-bong, recognized for his roles in "Chuno" and "My Love from the Star," served as the narrator, showcasing his abilities and artistry throughout the performance.
The silent film play "Crossroads of Youth" creatively fills the voids of silent cinema with a blend of humour and wit. Tickets were available for 5,000 won with a 'Culture Day Discount,' and Anseong Art Hall implemented safety measures by limiting attendance to 143 seats, which was under 50% of the venue's small theatre capacity, to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

ISLAND // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 7 Benim puanım: 8
Drama: Island
Hangul:
Director: Park Kwang-Hyun
Writer: Yoon In-Wan (webcomic), Yang Kyung-Il (webcomic), Jang Yoon-Mi
Date: 2023
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Kim Nam-Gil, Lee Da-Hee, Cha Eun-Woo, Sung Joon

"Competing for rankings at the end of the season is important."
The Changwon LG Twins went on an overseas training camp on Wednesday. Immediately before the training camp, Konkuk University was invited to Changwon for practice games on Wednesday and Tuesday. With various combinations, LG plans to beef up its efforts through four practice games in Japan and Taiwan, with players who will participate in the regular league as the focal point.
Heo Il-young, who met after a practice game with Konkuk University on the 20th, explained the training performance so far, saying, "We still have a month left, so we have to adjust more, but it's not bad."
LG has emerged as a new team to the extent that most of its main players have changed. In September, the team focused on collaborating with Korean and foreign players (Ashem Maray and Daryl Monroe).
Heo Il-young said, "Monroe knew each other well because we both played together at Orion. We hit each other well just by hitting the eye. I don't have to hit the ball alone, so I talk to the rest of the players a lot, and Monroe asks me to tell other players how I play. The players are getting used to it little by little," adding, "Marei has so good control under the basket that he just needs to throw balls that pass from outside, and we have a lot of space to take moves. I am very satisfied with the strength of the two foreign players." LG can expect good results only when existing young players such as Yang Joon-seok, Yoo Ki-sang, and Jeong In-deok and senior players such as Heo Il-young, Choi Jin-soo, Jang Min-guk, Jeon Sung-hyun, and Doo Kyung-min, who have joined the team, are in harmony.
When asked about her teamwork with young players, Heo said, "Good. Players also actively ask me questions. They tell me to talk without any seniors or juniors on the court, and to talk naturally like this. When am I going to use honorifics, I have to communicate quickly at that time, so I tell them not to bother about it on the court, just to call me 'brother' (laughs)," and added, "I take it well, ask a lot of questions, and ask for help if there's anything I can't do. I'm glad that you're nice and you worked so hard."
Cho Sang-hyun, LG's coach, led the team to second place in the regular league in both of the past seasons based on defense. However, he is satisfied just to follow through and make him try hard to shoot. Cho Sang-hyun is satisfied with Heo Il-young's defense.
Heo Il-young, who has to adapt to the defense that coach Cho Sang-hyun wants, also did not worry, saying, "I think it's definitely better than the first time."
Jeon, who is recovering from knee injury, plans to make a comeback at the KBL Cup. He needs a little more time to recover his normal condition. Moreover, as many new players have joined the team, it takes more time before their teamwork is fully matched. For this reason, LG is expected to show better performance at the end of this season than at the beginning of this season.
Heo Il-young said, "It does have such a point. If I don't lose in the early part of the season, I won 10 consecutive games and went to the playoffs. It doesn't matter if I lose in the beginning. I did too much for 10 consecutive losses, and I think it's better to play after the fourth round by only going as high," he said. "If you don't perform well at the end of the season, the blow will be bigger, so it's important to have a ranking fight then. Looking at it now, Jeon Sung-hyun has improved a lot, and Doo Kyung-min is okay. Not all players can play 40 minutes. Since I'm trying to rotate the rotation properly, if I know who my role and what the coach wants, it won't be bad if I think about the team first, not my greed."
When asked about the upcoming training camp for four games in Japan and Taiwan, Heo said, "I heard that Japanese teams also traveled a long time. It takes about an hour and a half to travel from Okinawa to Taiwan. I heard that I chose Taiwan because of the short travel time," and added, "I've been to both the U.S. and Europe, but it's really hard to travel long distances. It's not that Japan and Taiwan have a bad opponent. I don't worry too much."
"The most important thing is defense. There are many different kinds of defense, so I asked him to talk about defense and rotation that fit the situation. I also emphasize that because we have to talk a lot from inside rather than outside (court). The coach also emphasizes the rebound after the defense that the coach wants, so we have to focus on that," he said. About Go Kyung Jun
Tumblr media
Prolog.
Drama Korea berjudul "Night Has Come" menceritakan tentang rombongan siswa SMA Yooil yang terjebak di hotel misterius.
Karakter Go Kyung Jun
Tumblr media
Go Kyung Jun adalah tukang bully di kelas 11-3 SMA Yooil. Ia bersama Shin Seung Bin dan Kim Jin Ha kerap merundung Jin Da Bum dan Choi Joo Won.
Meski begitu, penonton sempat menaruh simpati pada Go Kyung Jun ketika dia terlihat menangis rapuh setelah mengeliminasi Park Woo Ram. Dianggap mengalami perkembangan karakter, Go Kyung Jun mengingatkan penonton pada Kwon Il Ha di Duty After School (2023).
Tumblr media
Lalu, siapa sebenarnya Go Kyung Jun?

[Anan] Leading the 4th Hallyu Boom! Lee Jong Suk "Now in my 30s, I feel happy to act"
it's about creating a work together with the staff and co-stars. Once I realized that, I started enjoying acting again.
After going through my early 20s, when I just enjoyed acting, and my late 20s, when I was worried about how difficult it was, I've reached a point where I feel happy about acting again." Yang Kyung-won and Oh Eui-sik, who co-starred in "Big Mouth", made guest appearances at the fan meeting. Their friendship became a hot topic, but for Jongsuk, they seem to be able to talk about anything with each other.
“These two are the ones who can talk deeply about how they should live as people and as actors.
The longer you live, the more difficult life becomes, but as an adult in my 30s, I also think about how I should live my life from now on. , I started to think about it seriously. In particular, I have a lot of respect for Oh Eui-sik as an actor of my generation.I went to see his stage the other day, and it was really good. I still do.
I'm filming two dramas at the same time, but despite the different types of roles, I'm doing a great job.” Every time he visits the theater, he goes to the theater and sends his impressions, which is one of the reasons why he is so widely loved.
Lee Jong Suk said that he is still thinking about his next project. "Before 'Big Mouth,' he had to expand his acting horizons by appearing in many different genres. I used to be too obsessed with that idea, but now, on the contrary, if it's an interesting work, I think that genre doesn't matter. When I was in my 20s, I used to say that my dream was to become a “one and only actor”, but now I want to be remembered as an “actor with a relaxed heart”.
I am also looking forward to seeing what kind of work I can come across. Please look forward to it, everyone in Japan.” Lee Jong Suk Born September 14, 1989 in South Korea. He made his acting debut in 2009. He has appeared in many popular dramas such as "W - Kimi to Boku no Sekai -", "While you are sleeping", and "Romance is a supplementary volume".
His latest drama, Big Mouth, puts aside his signature romance and tries hard-boiled noir. He broke new ground and became a hot topic.

Young Lady and Gentleman
Tumblr media
I decided to watch this series because it has a really good cast. I've seen most of the actors in other series and I was looking forward to watching them, specially Ji Hyun Woo, who is one of my favorite actors. The first couple of episodes held my interest even though they were filled with cliché: the misunderstanding at the hiking site, Dan Dan winning Jae Ni over by fighting against her bullies, and Dan Dan's stepmother and her family's lack of sense when it came to money, to name a few things. There were a lot of characters that annoyed me to no end, but what really killed it for me was the amnesia plot (acting like a 22 years old man and then remembering he was 40 and forgetting what he did when thinking he was back in his 20s). I skipped half the episodes and then saw the rest of the episodes skipping scenes.
This series disappointed me. It could have explored the issues in believable ways, instead of brushing them with cliché plot twists and simplifying the issues and resolutions. They could have explored the stigma to age difference in relationships since Young Gook and Se Ryeon both fell in love with people that were younger than them. They could have explored the issue of abandonment and adoptive family with Sa Ra, Anna, Young Gook and Dan Dan's father and stepmother. The decisions men and women make and how the woman is the worse off - with Dae Ran, who was too ignorant to believe a married man's words and become his mistress and remain in a household where she wasn't respected or loved. Because, let's face it, Young Gook's father was no model to follow.
The characters didn't help either. Of the adult characters the only ones that were less annoying were Mi Rim and Joon Oh because they went after what they wanted, they worked around the hardship together and were equals in their relationship.
I had a lot of trouble stomaching the female characters (except for Mi Rim). Dan Dan was too immature, clingy and had no self-respect. The same could be said about Se Ryeon and her mother. Sa Ra and her mother were schemers, but I also think they got the worse end of the rope. Dae Ran was the one to propose Sa Ra pretend to have been in a relationship with Young Gook when he lost his memory and as soon as the plan went sour, she left Sa Ra with all the weight of the scheme. Sa Ra's desperation to be near her son made her do many unspeakable things but I believed she could have had a second chance with Cha Gun; but he also disappointed because he said he loved her and was willing to stay with her while she was pregnant with his child, but as soon as she lost it, he was willing to part ways. He walked away, leaving her all broken. . . A similar thing happened to Lee Ki Ja. Yes, she had to pay for her crime, but her supposed friends - who were no angels - brushed her every time she wasn't a convenience to them. In the end, even Sa Ra left her mother to find her own path.
Anna Kim was no saint either and she could have dealt with the situation in another way, but why use the "cancer" card? Why use the "let's pity her" route and then dispose of her through death? I just think this was too easy.
And Yeon Shil wasn't the best stepmother, or wife for that matter, but I think her husband used her and didn't respect her. He turned her into the evil stepmother for years and then had the face to tell her he wanted to stay with his ex-wife while she was sick. And here is where the male characters also annoyed me. Soo Cheol and Young Gook were good people but acted all mighty and didn't think about the people they were hurting with their actions or words. Cha Gun was a character I liked but the way he let Sa Ra go was really disappointing. Dae Beom was hard to stomach at the beginning but he grew as a character towards the end, just like Se Ryeon did.
I guess these are not black and white characters. They are all human - I'll give them that. They had their good things and those that were not good. And it would have been okay if the writer and director hadn't tried so hard to turn this into a comedy. It should have been a drama. I think it would have worked better that way, the female characters would not have been portrayed as ignorant, clingy and foolish simpletons and those over used plot cliché would have been out of the equation.

HOSPITAL PLAYLIST 1-2 //  KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 8,8 Benim puanım: 10
Drama: Hospital Playlist (English title) / Wise Doctor Life (literal title)
Hangul:
Director: Shin Won-Ho
Writer: Lee Woo-Jung
Date: 2020 - 2021
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Cho Jung-Seok, Yoo Yeon-Seok, Jung Kyoung-Ho, Kim Dae-Myung, Jeon Mi-Do, Shin Hyun-Bin, Ha Yoon-Kyung, Kwak Sun-Young, Kim Hae-Sook, Kim Kap-Soo
Kim Jun-Wan(Jung Kyoung-Ho) kalp doktorudur. Yang Seok-Hyeong(Kim Dae-Myung) kadın doktorudur. Chae Song-Hwa(Jeon Mi-Do) beyin doktorudur.
Dördüncü doktorumuz; grubun çiçeği Chae Song-Hwa (Jeon Mi-Do) oldukça başarılı bir beyin cerrahıydı. Oyuncu seçimlerinde diğer başrol oyuncularından Cho Jung-Seok ve Yoo Yeon-Seok tarafından önerilerek rolü üstlenmiş. İki başarılı oyununda rol arkadaşı olarak Jeon Mi-Do’yu seçmeleri enteresan olmuş.
